The answer is yes. Dante uses Precision Time Protocol (PTP version 1, IEEE 1588-2002) by default for time synchronization.
For an unmanaged Dante system (Ad-Hoc Dante network without a DDM or Dante Director), the default PTPv1 subdomain is '_DFLT' (this is also the default PTPv1 subdomain for most non-Dante PTPv1 clock devices). For subdomain information on pull-up/down, please see: https://support.getdante.com/hc/en-gb/articles/5508292415903-PTP-IP-addresses-used-by-Dante.
If you want to set your non-Dante PTPv1 clock as the leader, on the device configuration interface (refer to the device manufacturer’s instructions), select its PTP version as v1, configure the appropriate subdomain (_DFLT, default for Dante), give it a better (lower) stratum (priority) value, and set it as the preferred leader. Configurable parameters may vary depending on the clock product you choose.
To enhance the probability of your non-Dante PTPv1 clock devices being elected as the clock leader under the Best Master Clock Algorithm (BMCA), please disable both the 'Preferred Leader' and 'Enable Sync to External' options for all Dante devices in the Clock Status tab of Dante Controller.
When your non-Dante PTPv1 clock leader is elected as the leader, you will see an 'Unknown Device' as the primary leader clock on the Dante Controller. Hovering the mouse over the 'Unknown Device' will display a tooltip showing the MAC address of the non-Dante clock device.
For a managed Dante network (managed by DDM/ Dante Director), when a Dante PTPv1 device is enrolled into a domain/site, it uses a custom value/user-defined subdomain (e.g., 'H~O$L'). Given that the subdomain value for the Default v1-only domain/site is not displayed in the DDM/ Director web interface, and most non-Dante PTPv1 clock devices do not support editing PTPv1 subdomains, as a workaround:
In the DDM/ Dante Director web interface, select AES67 as the clocking mode for the domain/site. When doing so, it applies PTPv2 domain 0 to this domain/site, and forces PTPv1 subdomain to '_DFLT'.
