If you are running Dante Domain Manager (DDM) 1.8 or earlier, check the DDM 1.9 requirements and changes before you click Update. DDM 1.9 moves to a new database (MongoDB 7.0) that needs AVX-capable hardware, changes how High Availability (HA) works, drops support for legacy pre-v4 firmware devices, and tightens security. Upgrades that skip these checks can leave DDM unusable or block Dante Controller logins.
Before you upgrade
Can I update directly from DDM 1.8 to DDM 1.9?
Yes. DDM 1.7 and 1.8 installations (Rocky Linux 9) can update in the web UI under Settings > Update and System Info > Check for Updates, as long as the requirements below are met. DDM 1.5 or earlier cannot use the online update and needs a manual installation; see Upgrading DDM from v1.5.x or Earlier. If you are on 1.6 (CentOS-based), follow that same installation guide to move to a Rocky Linux 9 appliance first.
What hardware does DDM 1.9 need?
The hypervisor or bare-metal host must support AVX CPU instructions. MongoDB 7.0, the database DDM 1.9 uses, will not run without AVX. From DDM 1.9.1 the installer and updater check for AVX and stop if it is missing, so DDM is not left unusable.
CPU and RAM minimums are unchanged:
| Edition | CPUs | RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Silver / Gold | 2 | 4 GB |
| Platinum | 2 | 8 GB (16 GB recommended above 200 devices) |
What changes in DDM 1.9
Will my legacy (pre-v4 firmware) devices still work?
No. As of DDM 1.9, devices running pre-v4.x (legacy) Dante firmware are no longer supported. Before upgrading, export your device list and check firmware versions. Update those devices to current firmware or plan to keep them outside DDM.
How does High Availability change?
The HA model has been redesigned:
- The Arbiter node is replaced by a Secondary node with full database replication.
- When you upgrade an Arbiter node, it converts to a Secondary node and needs its own licence key activated. License it before you recreate the cluster.
- HA-only nodes can no longer be promoted to Standalone in the UI.
To update an HA deployment: disband the HA cluster, update each server independently, then recreate the cluster.
What else changes under the hood?
- Database: MongoDB is upgraded from 4.4 (end of life) to 7.0, which also speeds up audit log queries in large domains.
- Database password: each installation now gets a unique, random database password, stored securely. Upgrades apply it automatically, so no action is needed, but any procedure that used the old static database credentials no longer works.
- Ping diagnostic removed: the device Ping tool is gone from DDM for security reasons.
- Permissions: the Media Control role gains clocking-edit permission for Embedded Dante API devices.
What is new?
- AV Ultra device modes and video wall configurations can be managed from DDM.
- The Managed API (GraphQL) supports peer-group devices and reports signal presence for RX and TX channels where devices provide it.
