If Dante Via fails to initialise a connected audio device with "The audio device was unable to initialise" error message, while the device shows up in Windows sound settings and works in other applications (outside Dante), try following solutions:
1. Restart Dante Via and re-plug the device
This clears the problem in most cases, so start here.
- Stop Dante Via.
- Unplug the USB device.
- Wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.
- Start Dante Via again and check whether the device initialises.
2. Disable audio enhancements in Windows
If the device still won’t initialise, Windows audio enhancements may be the cause. These are effects that Windows or the device driver apply to the audio, and they can cause problems in Dante Via.
- Stop Dante Via.
- Open Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sound > Sound.
- On the Playback tab, select your USB device and click Properties.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Uncheck Enable audio enhancements, then click Apply and OK.
- If the device also has inputs, repeat steps 2 to 4 on the Recording tab, since inputs and outputs have separate settings.
- Start Dante Via and check if all is fine now.
If the device still doesn’t initialise after both steps, contact Audinate support and send Dante Via logs from (Dante Via -> Gear icon -> About -> Collect logs for support). Also, include information about your Windows version, your Dante Via version, and the make and model of the USB device.
